Cryopreservation of Gametes and Embryos – An Underestimated Public Health Problem in Romania

by Prof. Univ. Dr. Mircea Onofriescu

Cryopreservation is the most effective technique existing to preserve gametes and embryos for the long term.

This technology consists of slow freezing, which is typically used in the case of sperm, and vitrification, mainly used for oocytes and embryos. Cryopreservation is currently combined with other assisted reproductive techniques (ART) and is also valuable in preserving fertility.
